Certain areas of the city are more attractive for various activities, originally because of an environmental factor or even by mere chance. Each realm is a separate economic, social and political entity that is linked together. (ex: large warehouses or grocery wholesaling that require a lot of land are usually located farther from the city center due to land costs, even if they would benefit from a location in the city center. The city develops in a series of sectors, not rings. (ex: wealthy choose to live away from areas of industry) -Economic considerations influence formation of other kinds of nodes: certain economic activities may benefit from a certain location, but not be able to locate there due to economic factors. ![]() This model assumes the land use is conditioned by transportation routes radiating outward from a city center. Negative consequences of commerce and industry(ie: pollution) can lead to nodes: Some activities don't coexist well together and repel. Urban Geography Sector Model Developed by H. Highly specialized activities that require specific sites: (ex: Industry requires transportation facilities and is often located near railways, major roads, airports, or port facilities) -Related companies that cluster together for economic benefit, leading to specialized areas: by clustering, these concentrations of economic activities have access to the same pool of expertise, workers, supplies, and information channels.
